Our Ukrainian Friends Study English

For the past two months, several of our Ukrainian friends, including our Nataliia, have been studying English in the church under the direction of Jane Avery and assisted by Dianne Dalton and Sheila Davidson. They wanted to share their stories. Enjoy!

My Learning English Story ~ by Vira

We started to learn English at the end of June 2022. A little bit more than one month, but for all this time we have learnt a lot: nouns, adjectives, pronouns, verb, different times include present and past simple, present continuous, past participle. Every lesson we have some conversation about our life, we make different exercises, we still make a lot of mistakes, but our teachers have huge patience to us and explain the rules of English again and again. So now, I would like to say thanks for your great job. Also, I want to note about one of our favourite moments at our lessons - it is a coffee break withdifferent cookies and I remember a first lesson with strawberry shortcake from our Jane.

I try to learn English. I have a very good book with English grammar. I study this book every day. Also, I watch videos on You Tube with explanations. And of course I practice English every day with native speakers. It really helps me. And every week I have lessons with other people and I need this and it is very interesting for me.

I try to learn English everyday. In the morning, I listen to audio, then I speak and write English with my children and I hope once upon a time I will study English very well and how to live native.

We are so excited to welcome back all the children to Sunday School beginning Sunday, September 11th.

The nursery will be open and staffed with volunteers for ages 0-3.

Jr. Sunday School, Grades Jk - 1 and Sr. Sunday School grades 2-6 will meet upstairs at the beginning of the service (10:00).

We will begin with a creation unit based on Genesis 1-3 with storytelling, crafts and science activities.

On the first Sunday, Sept 11th, we ask that a parent please accompany the child upstairs to fill out the registration form.

Join us on September 25 in St. Andrew’s Hall after the worship service to wish Rev. Bob a happy retirement!

On Sunday September 11th, 2022, St. Andrew's will be participating in Doors Open Kawartha Lakes. The theme this year is Design, and participating sites include historic buildings that have been repurposed for new uses; buildings with interesting or unusual design features; and buildings which have been designed by prominent architects or design firms. St. Andrew's stands as one of Lindsay architect William Duffus' finest monuments, and has graced downtown Lindsay for 135 years. On September 11th, the sanctuary will be open from 12-4 PM for guided and self-guided tours. Alex Ripley, a Toronto-based organist, will perform a short recital in the afternoon and will also play during the morning worship service. Volunteers who would like to help out that afternoon may contact Ian McKechnie at (705) 324-1713 or ianmckechnie@trentu.ca for more information.
